The Midnight Backhand formed during the winter of 2004/2005 by longtime friends Jon Rey, Abel Lopez, Jerry Sutherlin, and Clint Nelsen. Originally an excuse to pass the long winter nights, the boys started compiling long set lists and an extensive collection of original songs. Not long after they began playing live for a large local following. Nearly two decades later Midnight Backhand (and fellow Backhanders Dusty Mars, John Dunn, and Jered Davis) have released three studio albums, played hundreds of shows, and opened for Asleep at the Wheel, David Allen Coe, Randy Rogers Band, Black Hawk, and Jack Ingram.
